I am an electrical engineer with a PhD from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a master’s from Universidad de los Andes. My work sits where 3GPP standards, Kubernetes and AI agents meet: making private cellular networks something a small team can deploy, observe and operate as software.
I started in RF IC design and radio-access research, then contributed to OpenAirInterface at EURECOM, and later led R&D at IDTolú, where I designed and implemented an LTE-based 5G Broadcast pilot. Today I run Beanters, teach at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, and organize the Colombia OpenInfra User Group and KCD Colombia.
What I work on
- Cloud-native telco. 4G and 5G cores, RAN and IPTV/SMS/VoLTE services moved from docker compose to Helm, FluxCD and Kubernetes operators.
- AI-assisted operations. Agents and natural-language deployment for cellular networks, built to be inspected, tested and kept local.
- Teaching and community. Hands-on Docker, Kubernetes and private-cloud labs, open workshops, and the OpenInfra and CNCF community in Colombia.
Experience
Founder, Beanters (2022 to present)
Builds ngntelco, described on beanters.com as “the AI-native orchestration platform for cellular networks”: one CLI to deploy 4G, 5G SA, NB-IoT and other 3GPP networks with Docker Compose, Helm or FluxCD. Also teaches a Cellular Networks course from 2G to 6G.
Lecturer, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2025 to present)
Teaches open-source software, cellular networks, microservices and private cloud. Builds hands-on Docker and Kubernetes labs and brings students into KCD Colombia and the OpenInfra User Group.
Cellular Networks Researcher, CEET, SENA (Apr to Dec 2024)
Designed private 5G networks orchestrated with Kubernetes, and scripted OpenStack private-cloud deployments with Colombian internet providers.
Director of R&D and founder, IDTolú (2020 to 2023)
Led private-cloud design with Kubernetes, OpenStack and Ansible, and designed and implemented an LTE-based 5G Broadcast pilot. Worked with OpenAirInterface, Qualcomm, 5G-MAG and Microsoft, and advised MinTIC.
Lecturer, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2019 to 2021)
Taught open-source software, cellular networks, microservices and private cloud, and trained more than 40 government professionals (MinTIC, ANE, Minciencias, governorships and mayorships) in Docker and cloud-native labs for private 5G deployment.
Researcher and contributor, EURECOM, OpenAirInterface (2017 to 2020)
Internship in 2017, then contributions to the OpenAirInterface 4G/5G stack (frequency-domain processing, C-RAN emulation).
Research
- C-RAN Emulation Methodologies (2019). IEEE SPAWC 2019, Cannes. With R. Knopp and S. Eslava. Real-time emulation of C-RAN components with frequency-domain processing on OpenAirInterface. Per the abstract, one order of magnitude improvement in the average computation time of the multipath channel on generic x86 computers versus the time-domain approach.
- NSGA-III benchmark dataset (Dataset). Open dataset that accompanies the 2019 paper, on IEEE DataPort.
- Multi-objective optimization (Journal). Ingeniería e Investigación, Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
- Real-time coordinated scheduling for Cloud RAN in a software-only environment using OpenAirInterface (Journal). Ingeniería y Universidad, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
Credentials
- CNCF Kubernetes: Kubestronaut, CKA, CKAD, CKS, KCNA, KCSA (2025)
- Linux Foundation: DevOps IT Professional Program and LFS courses (2020 to 2024)
- Education: PhD Electrical Engineering, Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2020); MSc Electronics and Computer Engineering (RF focus), Universidad de los Andes (2013); BSc Electrical Engineering, Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2006)
Community
Organizer of the Colombia OpenInfra User Group, a Bogotá community with more than 360 members on Meetup and events since 2022, and of KCD Colombia 2025. CNCF community member, OpenStack community member, and participant in the Sylva WG06 hackathon on Kubernetes operators for communication service providers.
Let’s talk
Open to talks, collaborations on next-generation cellular networks and Open RAN, and roles at the intersection of cloud-native and telecom.
